Philadelphia Police arrest a man, accused of breaking into a blind woman's home in Northeast Philadelphia in the middle of the night.
"It could have been a very serious situation. Thank God there were no injuries," said Capt. Francis Bachmayer, Philadelphia Police.
The woman told police she woke up around 3:00 a.m. to hear her guide dog barking and the sound of several male voices inside her home on the 4700 block of Marple Street.
Police say the intruders turned on the gas stove, filling the home with natural gas. The woman's guide dog chased the men out of the home.
The woman told officers that her dog led her to the phone to dial 911. When officers arrived on scene, they turned off the gas.
The suspect who is now in police custody lives on the same block as the woman. He's charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and causing or risking a catastrophe.
Police are investigating to find out if anyone else was involved.
