A police officer’s son took her gun early this morning, ran off and set off a SWAT situation, according to police.
The Philadelphia Police officer was off-duty when her teenage son stole her gun, which the officer says was hidden, according to Philadelphia Police.
The unidentified officer reported to the department that her son, who is on house arrest, stole her gun around midnight and went to his friend's house.
NBC10's Katy Zachry was first on the scene. She reported that police were concerned for the boy and unsure of his mental state.
NBC10 cameras were the only ones to roll as police surrounded a home on the 5700 block of Lansdowne Avenue in West Philadelphia. A SWAT officer in full gear could be seen knocking on the door of the home before officers entered the home around 6:30 a.m.
A short time later a young male was seen being led away from the home in handcuffs.
It isn't clear what the officer's son did to wind up on house arrest.
The stolen handgun wasn't immediately recovered.
