A man was seriously hurt when a fire broke out inside his suburban home overnight and investigators believe the blaze could have been intentionally set.

Firefighters responded to the home on the 100 block of Caribou Court in Deptford, N.J. around 3:40 a.m. Monday after a neighbor heard a popping sound next door and called 911.

There were reports of multiple entrapments in the home, which sits on a short, tree-lined block.

Deptford township Police Officer Tim Parks kicked in the door of the home to rescue resident Christopher Mach, 58, from inside.

Mach suffered suffered burns on about one-third of his body and was taken to Temple University Hospital’s burn unit, according to Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld.

Officer Parks suffered a twisted knee kicking in the door, Weisenfeld said.

The fire took less than an hour to bring under control.

The cause of the blaze, which damaged the kitchen and living room, wasn’t released. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office joined firefighters to investigate the blaze. That investigation seemed to focus on the back of the home.

Weisenfeld said that investigators looked at arson as a possible cause.
