More than two dozen alleged mobsters associated with three of New York's five organized crime families are being rounded up by the FBI Wednesday morning in connection with an ongoing investigation, NBC 4 New York has learned.
The arrests are based on indictments charging extortion and other federal crimes relating to the garbage-hauling industry, law enforcement sources said.
The suspects are being transported to the FBI office in Lower Manhattan for processing and will appear in federal court later Wednesday.
The U.S. Attorney's office is expected to release a statement outlining the investigation and specific charges.
