Authorities are warning anyone heading out on the roads to use extra caution.
The dangerous road conditions have led to accidents across our area and prompted several road closures.
The Walt Whitman Bridge has re-opened after being closed earlier Monday night because of an accident due to ice (pictured below.)
The Delaware River Port Authority tells NBC10 that there is a 25 m.p.h speed restriction in effect for the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry Bridge.
PennDOT Spokesman Gene Blaum tells NBC10 that the quick drop in temperatures led to a freeze over on the roads. He says trucks have been out salting the roads.
NBC10's Sheena Parveen says now that temperatures have dropped below freezing, drivers should expect icy spots on the roads Tuesday morning as well. Cold, bitter winds will also make Tuesday feel like the single digits.
Rt. 476 Northbound to I-76 near Conshohocken was another major road closure that backed up traffic. That highway re-opened just before 11:00 p.m. Monday. (pictured below)
